View treatmentAbout our digestive health service
Digestive problems are among the most common reasons people visit a pharmacy. Our digestive health consultations cover acid reflux and heartburn that keeps returning, irritable bowel syndrome, haemorrhoids and uncomplicated cystitis. Many of these conditions respond well to a short prescription course combined with simple changes to diet, mealtimes and routine, and the pharmacist's advice covers both.
Some symptoms are red flags that need urgent, in-person assessment rather than an online prescription. Difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, black or bloody stools, persistent vomiting, or cystitis with a fever and back pain should be seen by a GP or, if severe, an urgent care service. Our questionnaires screen for these so you aren't delayed by the wrong route, and the pharmacist will tell you clearly when a symptom needs to be examined in person.
If your symptoms are recurring rather than new, it helps to note when they happen, what seems to set them off and anything you've already tried, because that detail lets the pharmacist choose between a short course to settle a flare-up and a longer plan for keeping it under control. Where a condition needs monitoring over time, such as reflux that has needed treatment for several months, we'll recommend a review with your GP alongside anything we supply.
