Overview

Haemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in and around the anus and rectum. They can cause itching, pain, bleeding, and discomfort. They are very common and can often be treated effectively.

Understanding Haemorrhoids

Haemorrhoids can be internal or external. Common causes include constipation, straining, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, ageing, obesity, and heavy lifting. Symptoms: bright red bleeding, pain, itching, swelling, and discomfort during bowel movements.

Treatment & Prevention

Treatment options include: Medicated creams such as Anusol HC, Proctosedyl, or Scheriproct. A high-fibre diet, adequate hydration, and avoiding straining.
