Wegovy Pill: Oral Semaglutide for Weight Management

What is the Wegovy Pill?

The Wegovy pill is an oral form of semaglutide — the same GLP-1 active ingredient as the well-known Wegovy injection, but taken as a once-daily tablet rather than a weekly injection. It is designed for people who want the proven appetite-regulating benefits of semaglutide without needles, supporting steady, sustainable weight loss alongside a reduced-calorie diet and regular activity.

Like the injection, it is intended for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

How Does the Wegovy Pill Work?

Semaglutide mimics a natural gut hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar.

For the tablet to absorb properly it must be taken on an empty stomach when you first wake, with a small sip of water (no more than half a glass), at least 30 minutes before any food, other drinks or medicines.

Dosing and Titration

The Wegovy pill is started at a low dose and increased gradually so your body can adjust and side effects are kept to a minimum. A typical titration schedule is:

Your prescriber will confirm the right schedule for you and may adjust it based on how you respond. If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next one as normal — never double up.

How Much Weight Could I Lose?

In clinical studies of oral semaglutide for weight management, participants achieved meaningful, sustained weight loss when the medicine was combined with diet and exercise. Results vary from person to person, and the best outcomes come from pairing treatment with healthier eating and regular movement.

Benefits

Possible Side Effects

Most side effects are digestive and tend to ease as your body adjusts. They can include:

Seek medical advice promptly if you have severe or lasting stomach pain (a possible sign of pancreatitis), symptoms of dehydration, or any allergic reaction. A full list is included in the patient information leaflet supplied with your medication.

Who Can Take the Wegovy Pill?

The Wegovy pill may suit adults who meet the BMI criteria above and have no contraindications. It is not suitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding or while trying to conceive, or for people with a history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN2 or pancreatitis. Because it is a high-risk GLP-1 medicine, first-time GLP-1 patients must complete a video consultation with our clinical team before treatment can be approved.
