Overview
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a condition that causes dry, itchy, cracked, and inflamed skin. It can affect any part of the body and varies from mild to severe. Flare-ups can be triggered by irritants, allergens, or stress.
Understanding Eczema
The skin's natural barrier becomes weakened, allowing moisture to escape and irritants to enter. Types include: Atopic dermatitis (most common, often hereditary), Contact dermatitis, Discoid eczema, and Seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Treatment & Prevention
Treatment options: Emollients: moisturising creams to hydrate and protect skin. Topical corticosteroids: reduce inflammation during flare-ups. Combination creams for infected eczema.
