About Fybogel
Fybogel contains ispaghula husk, a fibre that absorbs water and increases stool bulk. It can help relieve constipation. This entry is for one box of 30 sachets in the selected flavour, not a two-box offer. Orange, lemon and plain presentations must not be assumed to have identical inactive ingredients.
Taking it safely
Never take the granules dry. Mix with the amount of water stated on the supplied pack; the Orange reference specifies 150ml per sachet. Drink promptly after mixing and maintain adequate fluids. Do not take immediately before bed. Follow the supplied leaflet for dose and spacing from other medicines; the Orange reference advises a gap of half to one hour.
Warnings and interactions
Do not use if you have difficulty swallowing, throat problems, suspected obstruction or faecal impaction. Unexplained rectal bleeding or a persistent change in bowel habit needs assessment. Severe pain, nausea and vomiting may indicate a blockage rather than ordinary constipation. Discuss medicines that slow the bowel, diabetes treatments and thyroid medicines with your pharmacist. Check the selected flavour for allergens and sweeteners; the Orange reference contains aspartame, relevant to phenylketonuria.
Side effects and follow-up
Wind and bloating can occur, especially initially. Too little liquid can cause choking or obstruction. Breathing or swallowing difficulty needs urgent help. Stop and seek advice if abdominal pain develops. Consult a healthcare professional if symptoms persist beyond three days or there has been no bowel movement after three days of treatment.
Further information
Read the leaflet for the flavour supplied. The Orange reference below supports general precautions, not an assertion that every flavour has the same ingredients. Fybogel is not a weight-loss medicine.
