View treatmentAbout our respiratory service
Our respiratory service is designed for people with an existing diagnosis of asthma or COPD who need a reliable way to keep their inhalers topped up between GP reviews. It covers reliever inhalers for quick relief, preventer inhalers that reduce airway inflammation, long-acting bronchodilators and combination inhalers, as well as treatments for COPD.
Inhalers are only prescribed where they match what you already use and your condition is under reasonable control, so the consultation asks about your current medication, how often you need your reliever and whether you've had recent flare-ups. Needing a reliever more than a few times a week is a sign your treatment should be reviewed, and in that case we'll ask you to see your GP or asthma nurse rather than simply supply more.
Technique matters as much as the inhaler itself, and a surprising number of people get less benefit than they should because the device isn't being used correctly. When your order arrives the pharmacist can talk you through the right technique for your specific device and recommend a spacer where it helps. Keep your annual asthma or COPD review with your GP practice; our service is designed to sit alongside it, not replace it.
