Overview
Cold sores are small blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth, caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1). They are very common and usually clear up within 7–10 days without treatment.
Understanding Cold Sores
Cold sores are most contagious during the early tingling stage and while blisters are visible. Common symptoms include tingling, itching, or burning around the lips, painful blisters, and swelling. Common triggers: fatigue, stress, common cold, hormonal changes, and sun exposure.
Treatment & Prevention
Early intervention at the first sign of tingling is key. Our experts may recommend: Aciclovir: available as antiviral tablets or creams. Valtrex: for frequent or severe outbreaks.
