About this medicine
Prochlorperazine is an anti-sickness medicine that acts on dopamine pathways. Buccal tablets dissolve between the upper gum and lip rather than being swallowed whole. The licensed pharmacy presentation reviewed is for nausea and vomiting associated with previously diagnosed migraine in adults. That licence does not automatically cover nausea from weight-loss treatment.
Pack and use
This catalogue entry is for 16 tablets containing 3mg each. Follow the supplied leaflet and your individual prescription instructions. Do not chew the tablets or swallow them whole. The prescriber must decide whether treatment, dose, duration and any repeat supply are appropriate. A competitor's maximum order quantity is not our prescribing policy.
Before treatment
Tell the prescriber about liver or blood disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma, prostate problems, heart rhythm conditions and previous blood clots. The reference product must not be used in pregnancy and should not be used during breastfeeding. Tell the clinician if pregnancy is possible. Provide a complete list of medicines, including lithium, sedatives, blood-pressure medicines and medicines that affect heart rhythm.
Side effects and urgent help
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth and low blood pressure can occur. Avoid alcohol and do not drive if affected. Unusual movements, fever with muscle stiffness or confusion, chest pain, breathlessness or a severe allergic reaction require urgent assessment. Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency.
Presentation matters
A pharmacy-only migraine product and a prescriber-led nausea pathway are not interchangeable. The exact supplied product licence must be checked before activation. The linked reference is not a promise of a particular manufacturer or permission to prescribe for a different indication.
